At my last retreat, my son Cooper came to hang out. He showed interest in the Make & Take I had set up. I joked that I would show him how to do it then he could teach everyone else. He had never used the tools, but he agreed. On Sunday evening, he asked if I had a Make & Take for Monday. I did not so he got to work. When I walked in the next morning, he had the table all set up complete with a handout he had printed in the Hotel Business Center!
Keep scrolling to find my video link, handout download, and my version of his border along with a second border idea…

He used the Polar Lights Collection, Polar Bears Border Punch, Treeline Border Maker Cartridge, 12″ Decorative Trimmer, 12″ Trimmer w/ Wave Blade, and the 3-in-1 Scallop Square Layering Punch to create a fun layered border. Here are some of the photos he took for his handout. Pretty good for his first time.

He punched a single tiny snowflake out of the Snowflake Circle Chain Border Maker Cartridge to accent the center of the square punched with the 3-in-1 Scallop Square Layered Punch. The 3-in-1 punch has 3 settings to either punch out 1, 2, or 3 pieces, all great for layering. Punch a section of the Polar Bears then fussy cut to isolate a mama bear and her cub. These are his photos taken at my retreat!

During my Facebook Live, I created this version of his border using the Boho Collection

The 3-in-1 Scallop Square Layering Punch is a versatile addition to your punch box. It has 3 settings that produce either 1, 2, or 3 punched shapes.
Pro Tip: Make sure all expected pieces are out of the punch before punching again. Sometimes the pieces like to hide up inside. Use a multipurpose tool to clear them as needed.
Basic Border Directions:
- Cut a 2-1/4″ x 12″ strip for the border base.
- Cut (2) 1/2″ x 12″ strips with a decorative blade to adhere underlapping each edge.
- Punch various papers with the 3-in-1 Scallop Square Layering Punch – mix & match to create embellishment down the length of the border.
Variations:
- Adhere the squares horizontal or on a diagonal.
- Alternate the paper patterns.
- Change up which setting you punch your pieces with. There are 3 settings on the punch to produce either 1, 2, or 3 shapes.
- Adhere small punched shapes or embellishments in the center of the squares.
- Alternate squares with large punched shapes.

Love the idea. Thank you the Cooper and you!
Cooper is very clever and creative like his mother. Using so many different tools in one border! Beautiful job.
He did a great job! You have a right to be very proud! I love my Sq punch. So happy to have a new example. Thank you Tessa.
