Today I wanted to share a simple 5 minute technique to make lovely pages that can still fit quite a few photos. I call it my ‘Shadow Border’. My first example uses the Majestic Mountains with the Genuine Collection, a layout that will go perfectly with my summer vacation photos. I’m planning a road trip visiting several National Parks!
- Choose 2 papers that coordinate, ideally one will have a darker side.
- Choose a border punch, or a border maker cartridge, that only punches along the edge.
- Punch along one edge of the paper you want on top. Flip the paper around and punch the other end.
- Cut one end off at 1.25″ OR, you can use the scoring blade and score at the same measurement.
- Adhere the big piece of punched paper to your background paper. If you cut off your bottom border, flip it and adhere it along the bottom edge. If you scored it, fold it up and adhere with repositionable tape.
- Accent with variety mats, embellishments, or stickers.
- I like to choose a darker print so that the top edge looks like the shadow of the bottom border, hence my ‘Shadow Border’.
Perhaps your summer vacation is taking you to a theme park. You may want to use our new Roller Coaster punch along with the Magic Awaits Collection for your layouts.
If you’re taking a spring trip, you may want to try using the Tulip Border Punch. I accented using our new Floral Circle punch and layered it behind a mat. This layout used the Flourish Collection: paper and variety mats.
